ALANYA UNIVERSITY BRINGS HISTORY AND CULTURE TOGETHER ON THE 800TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RED TOWER

Alanya University brought participants from various cultures together around the historical heritage of Alanya with the event titled “Secrets of the Red Tower: A City Game in 800 Years of History,” organized as part of Erasmus Days 2026. In the program, specially prepared for the 800th anniversary of the Red Tower, participants explored the city's past together by following clues.

The event was held within the scope of the Erasmus+-supported “Palimpsest Cities” project, conducted by the Alanya University International Relations Office and Assist. Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Özgüleş from the Department of Architecture, with the support of the Alanya Municipality. The program, conducted in both Turkish and English, combined the historical atmosphere of the Red Tower and the Shipyard (Tersane) with intercultural learning.

DISCOVERING TOGETHER IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF HISTORY

Participants formed multicultural teams and completed tasks in historical venues by following the clues provided to them. They examined architectural details, shared their observations with one another, and created short stories inspired by the historical structures.

This experience, which blended gamification and storytelling, also offered participants the opportunity to get to know each other while exploring Alanya’s past. Each task turned into a meeting point for thinking together, listening to different perspectives, and generating a common solution.

A SHARED EXPERIENCE AROUND CULTURAL HERITAGE

In the event, prepared with the intercultural learning and cooperation understanding of Erasmus Days, skills such as teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, observation, and digital literacy came to the forefront. The collaboration of participants from different cultures on common tasks created a space for reflection on cultural diversity and shared heritage.

The program, which provided free admission to the Red Tower and the Shipyard with the support of the Alanya Municipality, aimed to help participants establish a closer bond with the history of the city where they live or study.

This gathering, centered around the 800-year history of the Red Tower, brought the spirit of sharing, learning together, and building bonds across cultures of Erasmus Days 2026 to the historical venues of Alanya.
